Context-aware systems

Context-aware systems (CAS) offer new opportunities for application developers and for end users by gathering context data and adapting systems behavior accordingly.

The expectation of CAS is well deserved, as such software systems are bound to enter several aspects of our daily lives. There are clear indications that CAS present challenges to current engineering methodologies and technologies.

Moreover, such systems require formal methodologies to represent knowledge. Knowledge graphs and deep learning techniques can be utilized to analyze unknown environments and support the decision-making process.

Examples of CAS domains include ambient intelligence, assisted living, systems of systems, multiagent systems, internet of things, cyber-physical systems, autonomous systems, and industry 4.0, which are now mainstream.
